I Present Normal Music!

Are the greatest singers those that have made it in the industry? Can quality really be measured by success? In other words, are the best kinds of music the ones that get the most attention? I argue not necessarily. But before I continue, I have to clear some stuff up.

I am not supporting any side of what is considered quality music. I am not a hipster and I am not mainstream. I just like music. If it sounds good and (occasionally) the lyrics are substantive, then the musician who composed it will have my sincerest gratitude (and will probably have more of his/her works posted on this blog).

So I don't really have a guideline of what I consider good music. It depends on which way the wind blows. That said, me just saying this music is nice without some validation is not fair to me or to you guys, in my honest opinion. So I try to explain the best way I can why a particular piece moves me.

Okay. Now that is out of the way, let's get to why I am writing this horrendously long post in the first place. Well, I have been checking my blog and I've just realized something quite base of me. Of all the musical pieces that I have posted thus far, a lot of them have been what I consider finished works. What I mean is that the music itself has been listened to, produced, edited and/or song by professional singers, producers, composers, etc. I don't have much from people who are what I consider "dark horses" to much of the musical community. This includes amateurs, people who make music for the heck of it and people who are considered "regular Joe" and don't live in Hollywood/New York City or own a $2 million house in Hawaii.

So to atone for my...slight lapse in judgement, I introduce a category I call "Normal Music" where I showcase songs (I just happened to chance upon) performed by normal people who are not just yet big stars. People like you and me.

Let me reiterate....the term "Normal Music" is not some back-handed way of me saying that someone's music is plain. Quite the opposite. The music is extraordinary, the vocals are spectacular (in my opinion) and the way the music is expressed is exemplary. The artist just hasn't yet made headlines in some of the more popular media outlets (CMT, MTV, Pandora, iTunes, etc.). So please, to all the musicians out there, don't take offense to this category. My showcasing your work under "Normal Music" is my show of appreciation for what you are doing as an artist. Honest and for truly.
