Shia LaBeouf, Elastic Heart and Interpretive Dancing. Heh?

It seems like there is a method to Shia LaBeouf's madness. If you have not been following this former Even Stevens star, you have a lot to catch up on. From his success as Transformers lead actor to his antics off-screen (remember the "I am not famous anymore" paper bag fiasco at the premiere of Nymphomaniac), there seems to be no lack of news involving Mr. LaBeouf.
Now the bearded star (yes, he has a beard now and it does not look like he'll shave it anytime soon) has his name connected to another topic of a more musical nature. No, not the creepy opera I posted a couple of weeks ago. I am talking about his interpretive dance performance in Sia's "Elastic Heart, along with the talented Miss. Maddie Ziegler.

The music video, now a little over 93 million views, has drawn forth mixed reactions from many people on Youtube. A majority of Youtubers praise the video for its artistic style. The nonverbal interaction between Miss. Ziegler and Mr. LaBeouf, along with the music's seamless response to the actors' movements (thanks in part to the video's editor and director), makes for a very moving (and award-worthy) music video. However, the open nature of the video has garnered the disapproval of some Youtubers because of the interpersonal interaction between 12-year-old Ziegler and 28-year-old LaBeouf, which these Youtubers perceive as sexual. Many interpretations of the performance can be found on the video's comment section. Personally, the performance reminds me of the struggle between a parent and a child. Both people are trying to achieve a level of dominance and understanding.

One thing is clear, though. For much of the video, a struggle does exist between the two performers. At some point, one of them realizes that there is no need to struggle anymore. Yet, we won't know the exact meaning behind the performance until an official explanation is released by either Sia or the director. That is not likely to happen any time soon.
