Do you remember the Kickstart Mountain Dew commercial that first aired during Super Bowl XLIX?
You know...the one that starts off with three dudes playing a video game in a basement. Then one of the guy's asks for a Mountain Dew, which somehow leads to all of them getting a Mountain Dew. Then all the guys take a swig from their over-sized cans and everything after that is absolute chaos packed with talking ornaments, dancing pictures and a table top that enjoys pelvic thrusting everywhere.
If not, then click the link below. The commercial is, to put it mildly, interesting.

There is one cool fact that I learned today about one of the characters in the ad. The dancing scuba diver is D-Trix from Quest Crew, who is one of my favorite dancers. D-Trix actually has his own Youtube channel. Who knew?
In addition to D-Trix's cameo, the music itself is really catchy. It is called "Out The Speakers" by A-Trak, Milo & Otis feat. Rich Kidz, and is part of a genre of trap music that I am not too familiar with. I grew up with Dirty South trap featuring people like Three 6 Mafia and Manny Fresh. So I had to do a little bit of digging to get an idea of what songs fall under this form of music. Here is what I found from a site called Run The Trap. It is an article titled "What is Trap Music?" that I think is worth reading. Honestly, I prefer the name "EDM trap" more than plain "trap" because it better distinguishes these two forms of music. I see the similarities but I think this sub-genre is closer to dub step than southern trap.
What you guys think? Do you think this form of trap music should be lumped with southern trap? Or do you think this should either be its own genre or lumped with another form of music? Check out the links and leave a comment.
