While I was in college pursuing a degree in engineering, I had a problem connecting with my own peers. I did not mind talking about schoolwork, but I wanted something more. I wanted to leave the duties of my major for a second and talk about things like politics, musicians and the weirdest fashion trends. So I tried commenting on sites like Yahoo! and Youtube.
However, the number of commentators were so many that I had to wait for people to find my comments and respond to them. Because I rarely posted anything considered offensive or incendiary, my posts went for months without a response. The racist and hateful comments posted by other users, on the other hand, were the first to stir responses from both like-minded individuals and critics.
That is when I made the decision to set up a small place where I could start a discussion and get feedback from others. So I made this blog. However, it took about a year or so before I found my inspiration....my focus. Not until this year's Grammy awards and Oscars did I start paying attention to things that did not sit well with me. Attitudes towards international artists and an imbalance in the quality of songs became the gasoline to my fire. Yet, I wanted to avoid from filling the site with hateful opinions. So I have made a concerted effort to create constructive posts that not only expresses my views but challenges my viewers to look outside of the box.
If you are passionate about movies and music, or you just want to find something uplifting, then visit The Modern Youth and let me hear what you have to say. I check my site regularly, so you can bet that I'll respond back at a moment's notice.
Kindly,
Mort a.k.a Everybody's Guy a.k.a Mr. EBG
