Pirates of the Caribbean Without Keira Knightley

So it is official. Your favorite band of pirates will be returning for the 5th installment of the successful, Disney franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.
Rumors had been swirling about the cyber-verse regarding the potential cast for the up-and-coming blockbuster, set to hit U.S theaters on July, 7th 2017. It became official in this summer's D23 Expo that Orlando Bloom would return as the adventurous Will Turner while Johnny Depp (who plays the enigmatic Jack Sparrow) and Geoffrey Rush (who plays Jack's arch-nemesis, Barbossa) would reprise their original roles.

A couple of new characters will grace the screen, including Captain Salazar (played by Javier Bardem), Carina Smyth (played by Kaya Scodelario) and Henry (played by Brentin Thwaites).

However, little is known about whether Keira Knightley (who plays Elizabeth Swann) will return in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. A source on Latin Post alleges that Ms. Knightley will not be returning to Pirates of the Caribbean, as told by Ms. Knightley herself at an interview for BBC radio. You can read the full article here.

If this is true, it will be a nasty loss for Pirates fans everywhere. The last movie did not fair as well as its predecessors because of Mr. Bloom and Ms. Knightley's absence. However, I do believe that fans should not take the news as that much of a shock. Being a new mother to a bouncy baby girl, it would make sense for her to slow down (if not temporarily halt) her film career to tend to the first few critical months (if not years) of her child's life.

In addition, the franchise is not at a complete loss. Granted that Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) is at a point in his life where he and Ms. Swann (Keira Knightley) will be tending to their own child, the director will most likely address Ms. Knightley's absence in the form of a witty exchange between Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) and Mr. Turner.

Still, I think it is too early to judge. Ms. Knightley may still make a brief cameo. As of pre-production, anything is still possible. I am interested to see if the director will bring back more characters from the other four films. I would love to see Ragetti (played by Mackenzie Crook) and Pintel (played by Lee Arenberg) come back to play more prominent roles. Which character(s) would you like to see come back in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales?
