Even though the idea of giving Deadpool his own movie has been in the works for years, there has always been the question of whether Marvel will stay true to the twisted beginnings of Deadpool (the tragic, yet sordidly humorous protagonist whose real name is Wade Wilson) or a more watered down version suited for a general, more family-oriented audience.
We saw a sneak peek of Marvel's movie portrayal of Deadpool in X-Men: Origins.
For the most part, it provided an incomplete (yet somewhat acceptable) answer to much of the criticism, as well as some added fanfare. We didn't get to see the dark-humor and sarcasm that Deadpool is known for (it's hard to be sarcastic with no mouth or free-will), but Marvel looked like it was on the right track.
After the Walt Disney Co. acquisition of Marvel Entertainment in 2009, however, the question resurfaced. For a company best-known for princesses and jolly talking animals, there was a fair level of skepticism as to how Disney would handle this rather odd and rough-around-the-edges superhero. With the release of the trailer, I feel like the movie giant has again partly-answered the question with a more battle-worn and yet cryptically-jovial Deadpool.
In this trailer, we do get to see the troubled superhero talking and cracking inappropriate (and sometimes awkward) jokes. We won't get a complete answer until the theatrical release of the R-rated film in February of 2016. At the very least, most of us can agree that Marvel is on the right track.
Warning: The trailer does contain inappropriate language and may not be safe to play at work.
