Here is a song that I have been listening to for a couple of weeks now, but I have not been able to decipher the lyrics.
Here is something straight from Liberia. The music, according to some sources, has been around for a little less than half a month (though I wouldn't be surprised if it has been around for longer than that). It's called "Walkobo" by an artist named Ericgeso. The song is really catchy. I've caught myself humming the tune a couple of times. However, it bothers me that I haven't been able to decipher the lyrics.
Even with my knowledge of Pidgin English, the dialect makes translation a little difficult. From the little that I can gather, this song celebrates Mr. Ericgeso's ability to overcome poverty and hardship. By doing so, he separates himself from other Africans who have been unsuccessful in similar situations.
My guess is the song is meant to inspire people to rise above their circumstances, regardless of the difficulty. Then again, it's hard to say for sure considering the language barrier. So if any Liberians are reading this post, help me out here. What is the song about? Is my interpretation of it close or way off?
In the meantime, enjoy the song and see if you can guess what Ericgeso is saying. Until next time....:)
