How far will you go to uncover the truth?
After a bomb attack rocks Paris, France, all eyes fall on a small time pick pocket named Michael Mason [Richard Madden]. In response to an attack on its ally, the United States unleashes its fiercest agent, Agent Sean Briar [Idris Elba]. Agent Briar successfully apprehends Michael Mason, only to stumble upon a conspiracy theory that puts him on the wrong side of the law. Now Agent Briar and Michael Mason must join forces and utilize their skills to uncover a 'mole' in the police force. Before they can do that, they have to face waves of foes. Not all of these foes are who they seem. Some of them are dressed in police uniform.
I love a movie where the protagonist has to adjust to something that he thinks will never change. It is always easier to accept something that never changes. No additional action is required. No planning is needed. It is like a cheetah chasing after prey. When it spots its prey, it runs directly towards it. It does not bend or weave. However, life is like the prey. It may not necessary run in a straight line. Most likely, it will turn to the left or the right without warning. If the cheetah does not adapt quickly to match its prey's movement, the prey gets away.
Take that thought a step further. Idris Elba's character is an accomplished agent. Based on his personality, he has cultivated a knack for readjusting to hostile situations. However, the hostile situation is coming from a place he never expects--the agency. Whether the person pulling the strings is a fellow enforcer or someone from an enemy organization is still up for debate. We will have to wait until Bastillle Day hits theaters on April 22nd 2016 ( or March 16th if you are in Belgium...or July 13th if you are in France...or August 11th if you are in the Netherlands. The release date is not the same for all countries. More information about release dates can be found here).
One thing is certain. Idris Elba's character behaves a lot like James Bond. He is brash, savvy and intimidating when he needs to be. Maybe this is a sign. If we are hopeful, we will see him and Richard Madden on the same side in the near future. In a James Bond movie, perhaps? Just a thought. :)
Enjoy the trailer.
