The Winter War Is Coming With a Surprising Plot Twist

Have you ever wondered how Snow White came to be?
In a joyous and prosperous kingdom, there lived a queen consumed by her own vanity. She was more beautiful than anyone else. As the king's right hand, she also possessed a power surpassed only by the king himself. Sadly, a great misfortune fell upon the king and he died. With his passing, the queen had no rival in power or beauty. She was finally the envy of the entire kingdom. She was finally happy. Her happiness, though, was short-lived. After seeking counsel from a magic mirror, she discovered that her sister was pregnant with a child. This child would become more beautiful as time passed. Eventually the child's beauty would surpass the queen's. This revelation did not please the queen and she sought to eradicate this threat by any means necessary. Even if it meant sacrificing the 'happiness' of her own sister.

After watching the trailer to The Huntsman: Winter's War, I like the direction the movie is going. Though the story of Snow White has been told in different ways, all the stories are centered around the relationship between Snow White and the evil queen. Every single story always goes something like this--the evil queen envies Snow White's beauty; the evil queen tries to kill Snow White; Snow White somehow survives the queen's plot; everyone except the evil queen lives happily ever after.

The plot for this film turns that entire concept on its head. There is no Snow White--at least not as a conscious human being. The trailer does show what looks like Snow White as a baby. However, Snow White is not old enough to understand what is going on. So she has little to no involvement in the story's progression. For the most part, the actions of the good queen, the evil queen and the huntsmen are what propel the story.

This unique interpretation of Snow White makes it hard to predict its plot line ahead of time. It does not follow the conventional story-telling, so anything can happen. The only certainty is that the evil queen lives. She has to. Who would try to kill Snow White when she grows up? Her own mother? Considering that this movie is the prelude to what will be Snow White and the Huntsman, it seems highly unlikely. But then, what happens to the good queen and the huntsmen army? I guess we will have to wait until April 22nd 2016 to find out. Until then, enjoy the trailer.
