I'm back with a new one!
What's going on MY's (Modern Youthers)? I hope life is treating each and everyone of you well. A lot has been happening during my "pseudo-vacation." Okay. Maybe "vacation" is a bad choice of words. I'm only on vacation when I'm here, sharing some of the hottest things in music and movies and talking about things that pique my interest. Let's call my absence a "business trip". Anyway, a lot has been happening while I have been off on my "business trip". I don't think I can touch on everything in one post, so I am going to try to spread it out into multiple posts. Maybe, if I'm lucky, the music and movie industry will slow down and give me time to catch up. Haha! Highly unlikely, right?
Oh well. Call it wishful thinking. Anyway, let's get to our first topic of discussion. So I got a hold of a new MV, fresh off You Tube. Barely 10 hours old and you all will be the first to see it! Before that, I want to share something with you.
When I was listening to this song, I couldn't help but be reminded of the musicians and actors who have shared a bit of their experiences with me. You know a couple of them. I've showcased their works here. Anyway, in our informal meetings, we always touch on the topic of "are you better off now than you were when you started?" The question isn't so obvious. Some of them respond the way you expect. "Definitely! I get to meet new people and there is always that excitement that comes with sharing my work with others" and all that jazz. However, there have been a couple of them who reflect on their journeys and wish they had chosen a different path. The road to worldwide recognition is not an easy one. You sacrifice energy, money and (most importantly) time, chasing dreams that you have no clue of the outcome. You hear all these stories about actors and musicians who seemingly came from nowhere and made it big. Destiny's Child, Tom Cruise, Miguel, 5th Harmony, Cameron Boyce, etc. However, there are just as many stories (if not more) where actors and musicians worked just as hard (if not harder) and never got to a point where they made a profession out of their passions. They hired the agent, spent money on equipment and advertising and booked venues. They pushed themselves to the point where they had little time for friends and family. In the end, they only progressed in experience.
Don't get my words mixed up. There is nothing wrong with pursuing one's dreams. However, without those groups of people who can encourage you when you need it and reprimand you when you make a mess of yourself, the road to fame can be a very, very lonely and frustrating one. So if some of you can take something from this post, let it be this. Work hard, work smart and enjoy your journey with those you love. Never tell yourself that something related to your work is more important than that 5 minute phone call to a family member or a friend. You may become successful in six months. It may take you ten years. But don't lose sight of those people who have been your foundation for as long as you can remember. You never know. They may come in handy someday.
So without further adieu, here is the MV to "Silence" by Don Diablo featuring Dave Thomas Jr. Enjoy!
