Andy Mineo: "Hear My Heart" Bridging the Gap

The music industry, as a whole, is slowing down in its attempt to attract new audiences.
During the infancy of what would be a multi-billion dollar industry, genres like rock, hip-hop and jazz reinvented music. At the time, those newer genres attracted audiences that would initially not consider music as an integral part of their lives.

With the creation of music videos, music expanded its terrain to incorporate visual aspects that teased the senses. In effect, this move further widened the market to include younger audience members. Since then, it feels like the industry is always pushing to appease younger and younger listeners. This is not a bad thing. It is necessary to remain current. However, I believe the music industry should take note of musicians, like Andy Mineo, who are extending their positive messages to groups not normally considered part of the music market.

Andy Mineo released a heart touching, music video for his sister, who is deaf. Watching it, I realized that this music video had more of an effect on me than other music videos because of the extra work Mineo put to reach his deaf sister (which includes rapping in sign language for the entirety of the video). I truly hope this song not only reached his sister, but reaches other deaf people who don’t expect the music industry to reach out to them. Here is the video called “Hear My Heart” by Andy Mineo.

Special thanks to Reach Records for sharing this video and thank you, Andy Mineo and crew, for creating this masterpiece. Feel free to comment on the video at its official YouTube page and leave a comment for me. Let me know if it would help the music industry to appeal to other groups like the deaf.
