A Tribute to Manchester City and All Those Affected

Fresh in all of our minds is the bombing attack In Manchester City that claimed the lives of over a dozen souls, not deserving of such a death.

Because this news has been so heavily publicized through various international and domestic news outlets, I’m not going to repeat the details of the attack. All I’m going to say is that it was a sick, unworthy attempt of a small sect of Muslims to try and remain relevant in today’s society. This is a group of Muslims who want their actions to negatively affect the lives of millions of human beings worldwide. They want you to factor ISIS into your everyday decisions. Every time you go out to buy groceries, go to a concert, take local transport or even have a casual talk with your neighbors, they want you think of ISIS.

As has become custom to the nature of these kinds of groups, their message reaches a young soul who, instead of harnessing the passion from that message to save lives, better the livelihood of fellow Muslims and extend the virtues of Islam to the non-Muslim community, decide to focus his/her attention on destroying the livelihood of both Muslims and non-Muslims alike. The little we can do now is extend our prayers to the many Muslims and non-Muslims who are affected by these unnecessary and counterproductive actions.

To those fans and citizens killed at the concert in Manchester City, as well as those who survived the attack, you embody what it means to live outside of the political atmosphere. Regardless of the horrific attacks that have plagued this world in the last decade or so, you decide to not let fear control your life. You refuse to let terrorism, hatred or discrimination prevent you from having a good time. You remain strong against the voices who preach death and destruction upon you and all those who share your beliefs. You look at the night, not as the time of day to cower in fear, but as an opportunity to share memories with friends and family. You are the true heroes of our time.

This strength towards adversity and love for life does not end with you in Manchester City. It also extends to you in New York, Paris, Beirut, Damascus, Baghdad, the Philippines and other places touched by the movement of fear through violence and intimidation. People of all walks of life -- man, woman, child, Muslim, Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, Hindus, atheist, etc.--you are all heroes because you decide to pursue happiness and embrace life in the presence of adversity and turmoil.

To all MYers and casual visitors whose family members were lost to (or affected by) the attack in Manchester City, as well as many other senseless attacks like this worldwide, please remain strong. Don’t just remain strong for yourself, but remain strong for the rest of us who look up to you as examples of what it means to embrace life. Your existence holds more value than that of those who preach death to others. You give us the strength to continue living.

I know it is not much, but as a token of gratitude, please enjoy this music video to a song called "Once A Day" by Michael Franti & Spearhead, also featuring Sonna Rele, and Supa Dupa. The song has helped me through many tough times. I hope it helps you too.
