Earnest Williams "Waitin for You": A 90's Love Song, All But Lost

The 90's will be remembered for a lot of things.
The Rugrats, Bill Clinton's presidency (with all its highs and lows), the pager, Michael Jordan, the list goes on and on. Depending on where you were (and whether you were conscious enough to remember it), the 90's connection can run pretty deep. For me, the thing that made the 90's so special outside of the family sitcoms (Full House or Family Matters, take your pick), was the music. Yes, the wild haircuts and funky fashion had its place (I see some of it is coming back). However, I was too much of a nerd to care about fashion in those days. The music is what moved me, in mind, body and spirit.

Unfortunately, there was one genre of music that I did not truly appreciate until the late 2000's. This was the genre of love, the genre of seduction. When boy (and girl) pop bands really made their marks, love songs were where they made it. Backstreet Boys, Boys II Men, SWV, New Kids on the Block, New Edition, shoot even Hanson, became memorable icons in the multiple ways they expressed loving someone.

I am not saying that love songs now are not memorable or worthy of recognition. It just feels like love songs are becoming more (and more) explicit. Jeez, artists nowadays (Trey Songz and Chris Brown to name a few) are pushing lyrical sex manuals. Insert here, thrust here. Make her squeal, and so on and so forth. There is very, very little left to the imagination, in my opinion. Love songs in the 90's were the kinds of things that got you and your partner in the mood without getting into specifics. Even R. Kelly (before the whole scandal), could make a girl sweat without being outright explicit. Actually, do yourself a favor if you haven't already. Read the lyrics to "Bump N' Grind" and tell me if you see one explicit word on there. I wager you won't. That's because R.
Kelly used other ways to convey the message.

All that said, these kinds of songs though greatly overshadowed by the more "direct" songs, are all but gone. I am very happy to showcase a song from a lyrical maestro who definitely took pointers from the 90's. This artist, by the name of Earnest Williams, is someone whose music I have found to be consistent and (for the most part) blush-free. So without further adieu, I present "Waitin for You" by Earnest Williams. Enjoy!
